Boys & Youth Programmes
Times past we used to help boys cross the bridge to manhood. Somehow we seem to have lost how to do that. That makes the journey pretty rough.
- Angry young man
- Rebellion and opposition
- Bad mouth
- Sadness and silence
- Isolation and no talk
- Defiance and deafness
- Difference and darkness
- Lost innocence
- Alcohol and secrets
- Dirty and untidy
- Hairy grunt
Is this your son?
Youth To Men
The Youth to Men programme offers a package for the people involved in early male adolescent changes. A youth needs peers and men to assist in the transition. He needs the support and guidance of older men to bring sense and calm to this time.
He needs discipline and reassurance to manage emotionally. Sometimes a youth gets into trouble in this transition. Most problems at this age are initiatory explorations.
There are two parts to the Youth to Men programme:
Boys Alive
In Adult's words...
Boys Alive is a fun action packed eight week programme for boys in years 4-8 (8-12 years old approx.), who may have a lack of positive male role models, behavioural difficulties, or issues around anger, emotion, relationships, social isolation, communication, self-esteem and identity.
The programme involves a weekly 2 1/2 hour, after school programme, and three activity days (including an overnight experience). Using a group process, relationship building action methods are used. These are linked with 'talking' with the boys about their experiences in this process, so they are helped to understand and develop personal responsibility surrounding thoughts, feelings and actions.
In Boys words...
If you're in year 4-8, then Boys Alive is an awesome opportunity to make new friends while playing really fun games.
We will meet for eight Wednesdays after school (for 2 1/2 hours). With a group of up to another eleven guys your age we will play games, tell jokes, eat great food, and learn how to amaze friends with a couple of magic tricks. While doing all this we will look at how to cope with some of the tricky issues like anger, teasing and bullying.
You will also get three whole days off school!!!!! This will involve an activity day, as well as an over night camp. AWESOME!!!!!

What's Expected Of Parents / Caregivers?
On week four and week eight the parents / caregivers are invited to attend the last part of the session. Week four to play games and have some fun with the boys. Week eight (the last night of the programme) to sit around the Boys Alive bonfire to have an opportunity to hear your boy affirmed by other group participants as well as taking the opportunity to publicly affirm him as well. We will then share food together to mark the end of the Boys Alive experience.
The Journey
The journey takes young men on a journey of outdoor adventure therapy with men in an encounter with themselves. Using the leaders and peers and the challenge of the natural environment youth are able to consider values and directions and who they will be.
