Man Alive/ Tāne Ora have been helping men to live violence free lives for nearly thirty years. Self reflection and accepting the need to change can be difficult process. However engaging with our counsellors and group facilitators in a non-judgemental, value driven relationship can be a hugely rewarding process, leading to a journey of growth towards health and happiness for you and those around you. Many men engage in further supports such as our Change and Support groups, couples counselling and our youth and family programmes to address the effects of negative behaviours on those around them and to grow as fathers.

Men do not exist in isolation and our collaborative Whānau Resilience service provides a counsellor  with the aim of bringing together partners, families and whānau, to support positive relationships and healthy Whānau.

“I was blaming my wife for the violence. I couldn’t make progress until I took responsibility for what I was doing.”
‘[The facilitators] were great, heaps of techniques to deal with anger and have more understanding with how other people are affected by my anger. Thanks!’
“My life sucked, I got angry with the wife and kids, got into the drugs. Now I’ve turned my life around. Yeah, I’ve got a great family.”
“When she walked out, I thought I had lost everything. After counselling I am moving on and just learning to be with my kids. I’m enjoying a new life.”
“My father should be here. I want to do this work now, so that my son never does what I did get here.”
"He now talks about his anger and is far more affectionate… this has only started since joining Boys Alive."
